First, Abortion is Legal in Virginia
Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters, each lasting approximately 12 to 14 weeks. In Virginia, abortion is legal up to 26 weeks and 6 days, just before the start of the third trimester. By this point, the pregnancy is typically in or approaching the third trimester, when fetal development is considerably advanced. After this limit, abortion is only allowed in cases of severe fetal abnormalities or when the mother’s health is at significant risk.
